End of The Day – Unofficial Fan Made Short Film

Evan Polivy (PolivisionProductions) is a student at the Rhode Island School of Design and as part of his groups final project they put together this great “music video narrative” that was inspired by Cudi’s debut album “Man on the Moon: The End of Day”. Here’s what he had to say:

The video is a collaborative senior thesis project between Matt Cavallaro, Christin Neal, and myself (all students at The Rhode Island School of Design – we graduate in 2 weeks). We felt a strong connection to Cudi’s music and wrote a story based on the narrative Cudi tells in Man on the Moon: The End of Day. We call it a “music video narrative,” because it’s partially a music video and partially a narrative short film. It’s about a troubled teenager who uses music to escape into his own space fantasy where he finds the girl of his dreams.

Tale Of The Hidden Gem

Hidden amongst my inner fears,
My worries are hung from a line and left to dry,
As I forcefully squeeze them,
Outcomes the dirty water portrayed as these earthly tears,
Throwing spiteful jabs at the question of why,
Shielded by these everlasting layers of confusion is I,

(I begin to chip away the bad covering the good in me.
Once finished, it will all become clear to me.)

As my weaknesses are chipped away,
Slipped away is the grasp of my sins gift-wrapped for today,
Trapped in my own tree,
Branches ripped off, bark peeled back,
Lonely he only seeks to be free,
Reaching out for freedom to be handed right back,

(My covering is almost gone as I patiently stand.
All the negativity begins to sink slowly as does quicksand.)

Time's so patient yet moves incredibly fast,
The mind seems vacant,
I cherish each thought as if it were my last,
Recalling most of the vast past,
Buried within is the man,
Head of State and beyond his class,

(Completely in the nude, it appears my covering has left.
It is now on me to take my first steps.)

When that star in the sky decides not to shoot,
I fall hard trying to find that sturdy floor,
For this beautiful lie reveals its ugly truth,
Speaking misleading words heard to be ignored,
Spared are the aired emotions wished not to be exhaled anymore,

(I am now able to shine bright and progress forward.
The better part of me is now for the world to see.)

Despite the bad I encounter,
I was created for greatness.
I may only appear as that bare rock in the grass,
But to me I will always be that hidden gem living in forever's past.

Destination: Supernova

The good, the bad,
How could I forget it?
When sad add a tad bit of glad,
Split decisions keeping me level-headed,
When words don't know the half,
Thoughts begin to gas me up unleaded,

Atop it all,
Then I start sinking down,
Bound to fall,
Short of breath from the drown,
Lost at sea for all to see,
Embarrassment forced to yield,
Stopped at the waterfall of confidence so deep,

The sleep so visible,
But the dreams so stealthy,
Providing a profound visual,
Is the magical brain playing tricks on me,
And I had to find the true self,
Apparently I've been living the wrong me,

The emotions take a tumble,
Hear it kerplunk,
The soul screams its final rumble,
For a wasted heart is simply love drunk,
Vomiting its care for the world,
Blacking out from the luminous supernova,
Self-destructing due to the beautiful hangover...

Supernova: A rare celestial phenomenon involving the explosion of most of the material in a star.

I was born a star.
But I must undergo a supernova,
So that I'll explode into the superstar I'm meant to be.
I'm on a mission, heckled by pit stops, in route to my destination.

Britney My Epiphany

Let's parachute to the end of forever,
Free falling to a bottomless pit,
Filled is the mind drilled with pleasure,
Enjoying food for thought consumed by the bit,
Hit with golden wit perceiving life's treasure,

In line is the spine of our love intertwined,
And my Britney seduced by my words,
So I simply fed her line,
Line by line she reads on,
Speeds on is the song of our bond so strong,

Shall we leap in the air to never come down,
Round for round goes the sound,
Echoing the beats of our hearts pound for pound,
Coming to a screeching halt,
Paused are break-in attempts at our love vault,

Happy am I,
With a head taped to the ground,
Eyes glued to the sky,
Then suddenly ripped off,
Lost without a cause,
The brain is stripped off,

In comes Britney,
Bearing gauze she patches my loss,
What an epiphany...
